If you’ve got time on your hands, have skills to share, or enjoy meeting people and want to enhance the care provided by our staff – then we want to hear from you!

Volunteers can help in a whole host of areas:

  • Befriending people who are using our services

  • Taking people shopping

  • Helping with leisure activities such as gardening, music, IT or crafts

Our volunteers are active in hospitals, clinics and in the community. A few hours a week can make a real difference.

Frequently asked questions about volunteering

I’m unemployed, can I do voluntary work?
Unemployment benefits can be complicated and we are unable to give advice on whether voluntary work would affect your benefits. Please check your own situation with your local Job CentrePlus before applying for a project.

Will you do checks on my background?
It is very important that we safeguard our service users and staff, so we carry out checks. We require two references, a satisfactory check with the Criminal Records Bureau and see proof of your identity. We will ask you to complete a free health assessment to ensure that you are able to carry out the tasks involved safely.

Will you pay my expenses?
You will be reimbursed any expenses that are necessary for you to take part in the project, for example, travelling to and from the project site. All expenses must be agreed in advance with the project manager and appropriate documentation submitted to support the claim.

What if I can only do a couple of hours a week or month?
No problem! We will have something that would suit you. Please tell us your availability on the application form and we will discuss it with you when we meet you.

I don’t have any particular skills, can I still volunteer?
Yes, you can! You only need enthusiasm.
