The Singing Cafe. Weekly on Wednesday at 10.30am-12.00pm at Church of the Good Shepherd Heswall. All very welcome!
The Singing Café
The Singing Café is a community based project in conjunction with the Anglican ‘Church of the Good Shepherd’ in Heswall. This was the brain child of Christine Youngman, pianist, who got a few people together to help lead the singing and we were off.
Shoppers drop in for a drink and snack on Wednesday mornings between 10.30am-12pm. They sit at tables and join in singing to the piano from song books that we have provided. In between the singing and chatting, people can get up to sing a song from the book, karaoke style at the microphone if they would like to. This has become a very popular part of the session.
Also individuals are encouraged to perform a song of their own choice for general enjoyment. Occasionally people get up and dance or play their own instruments i.e. the ukulele, mouth organ, violin or harp as well as the piano.
Everyone is welcome, alone or with friends. Some just sit and enjoy the music, and we hope everyone leaves feeling happy and uplifted!
You can find the Church of the Good Shepherd at 188 Telegraph Road, Heswall, Wirral CH60 7SE (opposite Heswall Library)
I was invited to the Singing Cafe by my friend Jean (one of the organisers) and a brilliant singer herself. It was a rainy day and I had a lot on my mind. Within moments I was singing along with everyone without a care in the world. Next minute I was doing the Lambeth Walk. Oi!
You really don’t have to know anyone there as everyone makes you so welcome. And then a hot buttered tea cake and a nice cup of tea (at a very reasonable, church mice price) and suddenly the world seemed a better place! The Singing Cafe attracts lots of different people and I think it is a real real jewel in the community.
Dont take my word for it, just go along!
