The Band Festival at Vale Park is excellent. I played Solo Trombone for Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass for the better part of 30 years - performing there many times. It is a great afternoon - even when it rains, which it does - often!! So if you decide to go and enjoy the music - do remember a waterproof jacket and umbrella, because the bands play whatever the weather is doing!

Hi Simon, I met you last March and you spoke about Recovery wirral and the contributions you have made to the site.
I am not too bad, holding on to life just about. The first month back home I found I had renewed energy after spending a week away from the pressures of home life. But as the months have gone by I find it hard to keep up with Life's demands, its hard running a house with my very messy and often unconsiderate sons, but continue to juggle my sanity with the washing, meals, bills etc. Some days I feel like curling up in a ball and hiding somewhere.
One good thing though I have started going to Arch initiative(Aftercare) in Birkenhead,it has provided a haven to escape my home life and I am at present doing a computer course and plenty of art throughout the week.So it is not all bad.
I enjoyed the post you wrote, and it was nice to put a face to it.I hope you continue to recover, and thank you for directing me to this excellent site. All the best. Kate Fenley

Alternatively, you could try the Wirral Ramblers who offer 4 grades of walk every Sunday with coach pick-up points across the Wirral, travelling to North Wales, The Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, and the Peak District. They also meet every Wednesday for more local walks and have social events every Tursday in Oxton. Contact Thelma Cowan on 0151 327 4980 or by email membership@wirralramblers.org.uk about joining.

Firstly good to see the Care Services Minister is aptly named - Mr Hope!

Over the last decade the Government has produced many directives to improve mental health services and encourage hope and optimism. Sadly as a recent in patient I see no real improvement on services. Nurses are still acting more like warders and there is no meaningful interaction except from one OT staff in the afternoon on the PICU unit. The other wards have no real interaction and nurses are rarely seen chatting to patients.

‘ Confident Communities, Brighter Futures’
sounds a brilliant idea....lets hope it is taken on board seriously this time.

This is a fantastic revelation to me. I never realised how deep stigma lies withing even the Parliamentary system. I was shocked to find sanctions on travel to USA and Australia but this is deeply troubling. These amendments in the pipeline sound like a great start in smashing these deeply offensive and archaic practices.

Brilliant news! Raised chlorestrol is a byproduct of stress. As is heart disease and cancer. A varied diet will always be good for you. A little bit of what you fancy and all that turns out to be true after all!

As an ex fine art student i found out there's a group of artists in America (the name eludes me)who embrace their mental illness and come up with the most beautiful work ive seen in a long time.No dulling drugs there to suppress their inner feelings and get them onto canvas.
Maybe some people are just meant to suffer mentally to create beauty? The mind has to go to dark strange places for art at times

This is so interesting! When you think of the days before medication and diagnosis some of the greatest minds were allowed to flow freely unencumbered by dulling drugs. Alleged most of the Greek philosophers were bipolar and would be calmed by sitting them in naturally occuring rock pools that have since been tested as being high in lithium levels.

I agree with everything in this article. I always like to have something to look forward to, especially at this time of year when it's cold and the dark nights make me feel like staying in or hibernating!

Like you've said, something simple like a scented bubble bath or putting on all your warm clothes and walking in the park with a friend can lift the spirits and make you feel better. I love lighting candles too, to make the atmosphere feel warm and cosier.

mmmm I had to say no recently and felt really uncomfortable and sorry for the person I was saying no to.

The daft thing was if I had said yes I would have got myself into a load of debt....

A shop assistant who was so sweet and helpful had spent ages supporting me to choose items I needed. After almost an hour the assistant sweetly added up the total cost :(

I started feeling uneasy, hot and embarrassed......

I had wasted so much of this persons time and I worried if they would get in trouble if they did not get the sale.......

Well I took a deep breath and apoligised for wasting time, thanking the assistant but said NO....

OMG I felt embarrassed, guilty, ashamed but WHY.....

In the past I would have just gone along with the sale, even knowing that if I waited the price would drop or if I just searched a bit more I would probably find a more reasonable price....
What a mug hey I would have got into debt to save upsetting a shop assistant lol.

So I am feeling quite proud of myself lol such a silly thing really and the shop assistant has not been sacked or beamed into space she took the details of my order in case I returned after the new year which could be used in any future sales

So saying NO saved me a small fortune.
